Annuals
Annuals complete their life cycle in just one season. Their seeds germinate and grow quickly. Some examples of annuals are Impatiens,Vincas,
Petunias, Zinnas and Marigolds. Marigolds are my favorite because
they add a lot of color to my flower bed and are easy to grow. They
do particurly well here in middle Tennesse where the summers are
hot and humid. Early this spring I purchased Martha Stewart's brand
of marigold seeds at Kmart and I started them inside before the
last frost. I can honestly say that they are the biggest and most
colorful marigolds I have ever grown. Most annuals bloom all season and are very fruitful bloomers. Most annuals are unvaried in appearance from plant to plant. Most require little maintenance. (water, plant food, and occasional deadheading) There is little variety over the course of the season. The display stays the same. Annuals need to be re-planted yearly. You may be able to save some of the seeds when deadheading to plant next season. The plus side to this is it provides an opportunity to change the look of your flowerbeds from year to year. Now that you know all about annuals now its time to learn about perennials, the plants that come back year after year.
