The Health Benefits of Broccoli

Did you know that Broccoli has been shown to have health building and cancer preventing potential? It is high in the antioxidants betacarotene and vitamin C and E. Not only is it rich in a range of nutrients but like other members of the cabbage family it contains certain chemicals that are know to discourage cancer. Between 1977 and 1978 an American study was conducted that showed that people who ate broccoli daily had a lower risk of lung cancer. Other Broccoli studies revealed that people who ate more cruiferous vegtables such as broccoli have lower rates of cancer especially colon cancer.

Another very important fact about broccoli, especially for women of childbearing age, is that it is a rich natural source of folic acid and iron. Folic acid has been proven to reduce the risk of having a baby with spina bifida. The iron and folic acid in broccoli can also prevent or correct anemia.
