perennial flower

Perennials are non woody plants that live from year to year. Some examples are black-eyed Susans and Hostas.

The time in bloom is shorter for perennials, usually only a few weeks.

Some perennials only live a few years while other endure for many years.

Perennials die down to the ground in winter but because the roots are hardy the plant re grows in the spring.

There are more varieties in size and shapes of perennials. They tend to be more loose and open than annuals.

Some require more maintenance such as staking, dead heading and dividing.

Their display changes throughout the season creating more variety and interest.

Perennials are also a great way to save time and money. Because they come back year after year there is no need to repurchase them or replant them. To me it's the enduring garden I look forward to year after year.
